Late again....but we are traveling, so that's my excuse. :) Naomi, you're halfway through Week 30! You're somewhere between 15.7 and 17 inches long, and weigh about 3 pounds. You're starting to control your body temperature and your eyesight is about the same level it will be as a newborn--roughly 20/400. Your fingernails and hair continue to grow, while your eyelashes and eyebrows are completely there. Your brain surface is wrinkling, in order to hold more brain cells. The soft, downy hair called lanugo that has kept you warm is starting to disappear as you put on weight with fat deposits. One big milestone at this state of growth: your bone marrow has taken over the creation of red blood cells. It used to be the job of your spleen, but your bone marrow does a better job and will help you thrive once you're born. You're moving just slightly less, probably because you have less room to move around. I certainly hope you're head down at this point. We love you very much!
Well, we're currently on vacation, and I'll detail that more next time. I love the time together and memories made with Kathryn and Jared. But I'm pretty limited in what I'm allowed to do. We go to the pool a lot, but I'm not supposed to even go down the water slide meant for kids. And it's warm and humid--for most people, a welcome change to our normal January temperatures. But I'm carrying an extra pint of blood, plus extra weight, so I stay warmer than others and get tired/out of breath very easily. It's not ideal. BUT I am enjoying the chance to relax and have quality time with family, before Naomi arrives.
Kathryn has two books about being a big sister, and she is really studying them hard! Another two months and she may officially be a big sister. We're doing what we can to ensure an easy transition. I'll miss my one-on-one time with Kathryn but I also think I'm giving her a gift, by providing her a sibling.
